The 9% salary surcharge has been abolished

Under the previous law, salaried individuals earning more than Rs 10 million in a tax year paid an extra 9% surcharge on their income tax. The Finance Act 2026 removed it — section 4AB now states that no surcharge shall be payable. This calculator reflects that change, so high earners are no longer charged the additional 9%.

Frequently asked questions

How much tax do I pay on my salary in Pakistan?

It depends on your annual taxable salary. Income up to Rs 600,000 a year is tax-free. Above that, tax is charged in slabs — from 1% up to 35% on the highest bracket. Enter your salary in the calculator above for your exact figure.

What salary is tax-free in Pakistan?

Annual taxable salary up to Rs 600,000 (about Rs 50,000 per month) is taxed at 0% under the current salaried slabs.

Is salary tax calculated monthly or annually?

It is calculated on your annual taxable salary. Employers then typically deduct it from your pay in monthly instalments, which is why the calculator shows both the monthly and annual figures.

Do I still need to file a return if my employer deducts tax?

Yes. Filing your annual return is what puts you on the FBR Active Taxpayers List (ATL) as a filer. Filers pay much lower withholding tax on banking, vehicles and property than non-filers, so filing usually saves far more than it costs.

Is this calculator free to use?

Yes, it is completely free and requires no sign-up. If you would like us to prepare and file your return, our consultants handle it 100% online at up to 30% below other portals.
